Announced recently, Egypt plans a new copyright law requiring royalties whenever any of its ancient monuments are reproduced, including the Pyramids and the Sphinx. Zahi Hawass, head of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, has said the extra money would help finance restoration and upkeep costs for the country's many ancient sites. Hawass also stated, "If the law is passed then it will be applied in all countries of the world so that we can protect our interests.
