Dick (Richard) Whittington who became Lord Mayor of London, is a legend to most of us, and the story of the man and his cat, has been the subject of numerous pantomimes and tales for hundreds of years. Although, the story of the man became partly based on myth, Dick Whittington, was a very real Londoner who used his great wealth to help the City of London and its people.
