Drugs In The News... It's Bad News

Prescription and OTC drugs have been making a lot of bad news recently. Just this week, drugs approved by the FDA for cholesterol, depression, as well as over-the-counter cough medicines have been reported to be ineffective. If that wasn't enough, a law firm has been soliciting anyone who had a loved one die or commit suicide as the result of using an anti-smoking drug to contact them.

Breaking News - Buyers Unable To Discern Which Conflicts Affect Their Diamonds!

Writers and newscasters need to beware of trying too hard to be politically correct. The first and last stops (of the politically-correct diamonds' train line) are stations called "Censorship" and "Manipulation." Have you ever wondered if the monies from non-conflict diamonds ever buy weapons to kill innocent people? Are the people who buy, sell, traffic, and wear blood-less diamonds immune to violence or the financing of violent upheavals?

Cultural Divide In A Chameleon City

When I was in college, I would rarely be allowed for late night parties into Delhi. One of the major reasons was the lonely commute back to Gurgaon. My folks would ask me to stay over at a friend place in Delhi, which was wise, because once I was driving back with my wife at about 11 pm and we were followed by what appeared to be milkmen from Ghittorni.

The New Mask of India

On September 15th, 2006 C. Mann, a representative of the Voices NGO, delivered a lecture at Global College's South Asia Center about how communities throughout India are seemingly benefited by their ability to access the newfound global communications infrastructure. He pressed the idea that traditional India is strengthened through its inclusion into the "global" culture and economy and that the Indian people are empowered through this new system of commerce and, subsequently, thought.

Car Hire Is Just One Expense Caused By Slack Local Authorities

The old image of road maintenance workers leaning on shovels and smoking cigarettes is one we often assume to be correct given that there are so many poorly maintained roads across Britain. Given that a good proportion of our council tax is attributable to highway maintenance, should our roads not be in better condition? In the UK, 10,000 pounds of taxpayer's money is spent on road maintenance per mile of carriageway every year.

Controlled Or Free Market Media

Having a cross-disciplinary approach, as Lindhoff and Rydholm believe, the transforming of media in global age in china, leads us to look over the whole process during the time. Apparently, the concept of ownership is a significant prerequisite to discuss about the media. Although "ownership" seems, somehow, unclear in a socialist culture, Lindhoff and Rydholm use the term transition which discloses a gradual converting process from dominant political ownership to a market economic dependent one.

Social Class in the United States

There are not exact guidelines for classes in the United States and different theories try to make it classified. Most Americans believe in a three-class model. They are the rich, the middle class, and the poor. America is a diverse society considering its culture, economy, politics and ideology which make different levels of wealth, income, education, occupation and social behavior. It is not easy sometimes to classify certain groups or people in a certain class.

Americans In The Eyes Of Iranian Young Generation

24 years ago: Iran is under the attack of Iraqi troops. The sounds of crying and moaning can be heard from every where. People are running, children are looking to the sky wondering what are that big black birds above their heads, they are trying to understand what is going on to the world of eldest. They have many questions to ask; "Mom, where is my father?! Why I should hurry to go to downstairs while I am playing with my dole?! We are escaping from what? Why those men I have seen in the television hate us?!... .

The Concept Of Melting Pot As An American Identity

Melting pot, the combination of people from different cultures, races and religions in one multi-ethnic society, is undoubtedly one of the most important features of the American Identity. It is one of the elements that led to the growth of the population of the United States specifically during the large-scale immigrations at the beginning of the 20th century. In this paper, I am going to have an overall view about the opposing ideas toward this metaphor.

How Local Governments Get Away With Taxation Without Representation

Back in colonial times, one of the big contributors to the American Revolution was tied to an event that has come to be called the Boston Tea Party. Surrounding this event was the issue of taxes being levied on tea by the British government. After the Revolution, provisions were made in the United States Constitution that made it illegal to levy taxes on citizens without having appropriate representation in the governmental process associated with establishing the tax.

When one company stands out (good or bad) should you believe what is said or written if you have no direct personal experience with the company, or should you take that information with a grain of salt and form your own opinion. Not all the information that you can find on the internet is true or factual. But when the information about a company in a particular respect is almost overwhelming, it might be best to do your homework well.

How to Keep World Peace and Your Peace of Mind

I continued Carl Jung's research in the unknown region of the psyche through dream interpretation from where he abandoned it and saw the anti-conscience that causes all mental illnesses to the human being. The unique solution we have is to prevent craziness and save the new generations. Secondly, we must urgently save our population that is suffering in despair without knowing what to do, by curing their psyche with dedication and patience, indispensable when we face the worse mental illnesses.

Deaf Culture and ASL

We hear much about deaf communities and social implications. One possible definition of U.S. Deaf culture (and there must be many!) is a social, communal, and creative force of, by, and for Deaf people based on American Sign Language (ASL). It encompasses communication, social protocol, art, entertainment, recreation (e.g., sports, travel, and Deaf clubs), and worship. It is also an attitude, and, as such, can be a weapon of prejudice. You are not one of us; you do not belong.

Genital Mutilation - God Help The Little Girls

I ask you to imagine your young daughter, or granddaughter, anywhere from the age of 4 to 12, being held down on the ground by several women, her legs spread and stabilized as either a rusty knife or thorns from an Acacia Tree are being used to cut out her clitoris. Blood is flowing profusely, her screams are piercing your heart, and no anesthesia is available. There will be no stitches and your baby will be left with a hole the size of a small pebble.

The Fortnight Bygone

Another year has passed with an amalgamation of gaiety and woe as it would be in anyone's life. The entire year witnessed a mix of quirks of fate laughing at people's face and equally jubilant events on the other side that forms the usual life cycle. As the calendar trimmed it size due to the advent of December, the final fortnight spread glee with the festive mood touching its Zenith at Christmas. The flavor strengthened as the year 2007 was about to bid adieu, although 2008 was on its toes to take charge.

Whale Message

The recent incident with the taking of prisoners (POW's you could call them, since there seems to be a war out there in the high seas), with the Australian group and ship, Oceanic Viking, a group of activists being seized by the Japanese whaling vessel, and said to have kidnapped them (hardly true, if they willingly boarded the ship without permission, it is more like invading on the Australian part, stupidly invading may I add). There is a lot of principles involved here, principles that are not necessarily shared by each.
