Most post-World War II subdivisions suffer from houses that are too small for market strength. This article outlines an approach to retrofitting these suburbs to keep them viable. Architectural fixes for the homes, refurbishing shopping center and strip malls, increasing walkability, creating a downtown or hierarchy of centers, and finding the political will and bold, visionary leaders will be the keys to new life for these suburbs.
