It was not merely because he was lured by the wealth of India that Mohammed Ghazni attacked India time and gain; nor was it his empire building ambition that was at the root but because he wanted to strike at the roots of Hinduism. Looting and plundering were only secondary. If it was only for the spread of Islam, as the Christian missionaries even now zealously do all over the world, one had no need to carry a sword in hand and adopt aggressive postures. Islam, with its stress on universal brotherhood does not need the services of a sword for its cause.
